From 1989 until now Black Magic has been one of NYs most respected sound systems. Born in the late 80s in Corona Queens the original founder of the sound known as Mikey Magic had Black Magic as an extremely competitive systems in the sound clash culture. Competing in the 5 boroughs of NY against many of the businesses top sound systems. In the early 90s the sound relocated to Brooklyn NY under the new guidance of the legendary and well renowned engineer of Don One Studio named Scarface. Now rooted in the heart of Brooklyn sound clash culture, the sound blazed a new path that to this day has not been duplicated. With the new location an expansion opportunity was created when the sound expanded to Portmore Jamaica under the watchful eye of Major Lee known today as Tile Beng. Between the most infamous block party which featured many of the cities dancehall artists and culminated with a musical competition between Black Magic and the King Addies sound system to the 1 on 1 competition featuring Black Magic and the Kilimanjaro sound system there has been many occasions were Magic has proven to be a worthy adversary for any opponent. Present day still has Black Magic as one of sound clashes more prominent sounds. Still under the guidance of Scarface who now resides in the island of Jamaica, the added guidance of Derek aka Fadda Derek has continually kept Black Magic at the top of their game.
MEET THE TEAM
Albert Alexander Jackson
Albert Alexander Jackson, also known as Scarface, was born in Kingston, Jamaica, and later migrated to the USA. While attending high school, he developed a love for the dancehall culture. He was recruited to become an engineer for Don One Sounds Recording, where he was introduced to Mikey Magic, the original owner of Black Magic Sound. For some time, he played the party scenes for Mikey Magic, and eventually he, along with Fadda Derek, purchased Black Magic Sound. He has been instrumental in expanding Black Magic’s presence as a major sound in New York, along the East Coast, and abroad.
Robbie Killah
Robbie Killah , is a prominent member of the legendary Black Magic Soundsystem crew, founded in 1989 in Queens, New York then migrated Flatbush Brooklyn . With an unwavering presence in the sound clash and dancehall scene, they have earned widespread recognition both locally and globally. Growing up in East Flatbush With his British / Guyanese heritage and deep passion for music and sound system, he brings a unique and vibrant energy to his performances. Robbie continues to make waves in the industry, leaving an indelible mark as an influential figure in the world of sound clash and dancehall.
J’me
J’me, also known as D’Jsens, was raised in Flatbush, Brooklyn. He has been playing parties since high school with legendary DJs and sound systems. He is now residing in Maryland representing Black Magic Sound, specializing in providing quality entertainment with light and sound for events for all occasions.
DJ Pacino
DJ Pacino Wonder is an international MC and selector. Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, Pacino, by the early age of 6, had already developed a love for music. Pacino was heavily exposed to his Jamaican roots as a child and would listen to his father’s cassette tapes with the recordings of old Jamaican bashments. From then, he studied the art of being a DJ but, more importantly, an entertainer. By the time Pacino was 14, he got booked to play at popular nightclubs multiple times weekly as the main act. It wasn’t before long that he became known for masterfully being able to control a crowd. However, Pacino was not only known in the nightlife world but was also in the sound clash world, which originated in Jamaica. He joined his first sound at a young age and used his entertainment skills to build his name up and bring home trophies for his team. In 2023 Pacino is continuing to exercise his passion, getting back the same results. There has been no stopping since he was a young child. It’s safe to say that Pacino has solidified his spot as a household name for more than two decades.
DJ Iceberg AKA Mr. Slim
Shawn Justin, professionally known by his stage name Iceberg, is a selector on Black Magic Sound. A native of Brooklyn, NY by way of St. Lucia, Iceberg got his start playing at clubs in NYC and North Carolina. His love for all genres of music aids in his versatility, creativity, and innovation. His influence comes from notable sounds like Stonelove, Bass Odyssey, Kilimanjaro, Mighty Crown, and King Addies. Iceberg currently resides in the DMV area, where he provides top-quality music and entertainment services such as DJing, audio/sound/video engineering, and sound services for corporate and private events.
JahWigs
JahWigs, a Toronto-born music aficionado with Trinidadian roots, who developed a profound appreciation for the craft while assisting his father with sound system equipment from a young age. Co-founding his own soundcrew as a teen, he provided a platform for local talents through acclaimed mixed CDs and VIP style events, focusing on reggae, dancehall, and upcoming artists. JahWigs’ remarkable journey includes deejaying, hosting & promoting events, podcasts, and more. In 2012, he joined the esteemed Black Magic Soundsystem crew, and since then, he has curated major dubplate-focused events such as Dubzone, Fight Club, and Border Control. He has shared the stage with countless prominent artists in the industry and recently claimed victory at the Caricon Soundclash competition in Los Angeles, California. JahWigs’ influence extends beyond Toronto, and he is available for bookings worldwide, leaving a lasting mark on the music industry.
Dre
Dre is a new member of the legendary Black Magic sound system crew, founded 1989 in Queens NY. Growing up in East Flatbush Dre has always been around sound system culture. His father has been a sound clash fan since the early 80’s, and from the day he was born Dre has been hearing the cassette’s of all of the legends sounds from around the world. His influences hail from sounds like LP, King Addies , 4X4 Exodus, and African Star. Joining the Legendary Don One sound Black Magic is a major accomplishment for Dre, and he hopes to continue to spread the love of Music and art of Sound Clash.
Ojay
Born in the USA, at Kings County Hospital, is a selector on Black Magic Sound. Growing up few people influenced Ojay’s love of music. His cousin Beefy, Fire International, Firgo Digital, and Samuel ‘s Top Ranking. Ojay plays an intricate part in making Black Magic become a household name.
